As Ganeshotsav approaches, the hustle and bustle in Maharashtra’s markets is hard to miss. With the festival set to kick off tomorrow, people are busy stocking up on fruits, flowers, and 21 different vegetables for their beloved Lord Ganesha. The market yard is abuzz with activity as crowds gather to make their purchases in preparation for the festivities.

One of the most sought-after items for Ganeshotsav is flowers, which are in high demand for decorating the Ganesh idols. In Pune, shoppers can find a variety of flowers such as marigolds, roses, and jasmine at the market yard. However, due to the increased demand, prices have shot up, benefiting flower-producing farmers in the process.

According to Arun Haribhau Veer, the President of the Flower Market, prices for flowers have seen a significant rise. Marigolds are going for ₹50 to ₹80 per kg, chrysanthemums for ₹150 to ₹200 per kg, and roses are priced at 20 flowers for ₹200. The most expensive flower on the market currently is tuberose, selling at a whopping ₹1400 per kg due to reduced production.

The high price of tuberose is attributed to its popularity for decorating Lord Ganesha and the limited supply available this year. In fact, white tuberose is now fetching a higher price than even dry fruits in Pune’s market yard. With such demand for flowers, it looks like this Ganeshotsav is going to be a blooming success for the flower market vendors.
