The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is stepping up its waste management game by making it mandatory for all vehicles handling rejected and processed waste to have GPS systems installed. This decision comes after a recent incident where residents caught PMC vehicles transporting waste from Yawat to a company in Daund, sparking concerns about accountability and transparency.

The incident led to a police complaint and exposed flaws in the current tracking system, prompting the need for a more effective solution. While PMC garbage vehicles already have GPS, this new mandate aims to ensure that all vehicles involved in waste management operations are tracked accurately.

By installing GPS systems, the PMC hopes to hold all parties involved in waste management accountable and prevent unauthorized waste transport. A formal proposal outlining the implementation steps and timeline will be submitted to the municipal commissioner for approval.

The goals of this initiative include improving waste tracking, preventing unauthorized transport, and ensuring compliance with waste management regulations. With enhanced tracking capabilities, the PMC aims to avoid similar issues in the future and manage waste more efficiently.
