Hey there, folks! Here’s some unfortunate news coming out of Pune. A drunk tempo driver went on a wild rampage, crashing into multiple vehicles and causing the tragic death of Geetanjali Srikanth Amarale, a 35-year-old resident of Shastrinagar. The incident took place on Sunday night between Karishma Chowk and Paud Phata.

The tempo driver, identified as Ashish Anant Pawar, a 26-year-old from Ganpati Matha, Warje, has been taken into custody by the police. It seems Pawar had a bit too much to drink and ended up hitting 5 to 6 vehicles in his reckless driving spree.

Reports suggest that the tempo was speeding down Karve Road from Karishma Chowk towards Paud Phata when the chaos unfolded. The driver first collided with a vehicle near Karishma Chowk, narrowly missing a crowd gathered for the Aarti at the Bal Tarun Mandal. He then went on to hit a rickshaw, a Hyundai i10, and a couple of two-wheelers, causing injuries to several people.

Tragically, Geetanjali Amarale lost her life in the crash. She and her husband, Shrikanth Amarale, were turning onto Karve Road at Paud Phata Chowk when their vehicle was struck by the speeding tempo. Local residents and workers from nearby mandals rushed to help, but Geetanjali couldn’t be saved.

Shrikanth Amarale, an activist with the MNS and a member of the Sangam Mitra Mandal, was out with his wife to collect materials for Gauri celebrations after attending the Mandal Aarti when the accident happened.

The Alankar police are now investigating the case further. It’s a tragic incident that highlights the dangers of drunk driving. Stay safe out there, Pune.
