The Pimpri-Chinchwad police are cracking down on underage drinking in the city following the tragic Porsche incident in Pune’s Kalyani Nagar. With minors allegedly being allowed in bars and pubs, the police are taking proactive measures to ensure that underage individuals are not gaining access to alcohol.
A team of 10 to 15 officers is stationed at the entrance of pubs, conducting checks to prevent minors from consuming alcohol illegally. In addition to patrolling the city’s streets, the police are also conducting surprise checks at bars and restaurants to verify if minors are being served alcohol and if adults are being issued one-day alcohol licenses in compliance with the law.
Senior Police Inspector Kanhaiya Thorat emphasized the importance of enforcing rules and regulations, stating that legal action will be taken against establishment owners if minors are found consuming alcohol on their premises. The Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissioner Vinay Kumar Choubey is leading the charge against underage drinking, demonstrating a strong stance against this issue in the city.
