As Pune gears up for Ganeshotsav, a new wave of tour guides is offering experiences that go beyond traditional pandal hopping. This year, guides are focusing on highlighting the festival’s rich tapestry through its diverse culinary offerings, architectural gems, and historical narratives.

Jayesh Paranjape, founder of The Western Routes, is leading the way with tours that explore the city’s five revered Ganapati shrines in core areas. The tour route includes stops at Kasba Ganapati, Tambi Jogeshwari, Guruji Talim, Tulshibaug, and Kesari Wada, ending at Poona Guest House.

One of the highlights of these tours is the tasting of ukadiche modak, a traditional sweet that is a must-have during Ganeshotsav. Participants can enjoy as many modaks as they like, along with batata wada and chutney. This culinary experience is particularly popular among non-Maharashtrians.

Supriya Mahabaleshwarkar, co-convener of INTACH Pune, offers tours that start at Kasba Ganapati and end at Mahatma Phule Mandai. These tours focus on eco-friendly practices and the region’s rich biodiversity, including seasonal wild vegetables.

Anurag Vaidya, co-founder of the Trishunda Ganapati Trust, introduces visitors to historically significant areas such as Sarasbaug, Sadashiv Peth, and Shaniwarwada. The tour includes visits to lesser-known temples like Trishunda and Nageshwar, providing insights into their historical and cultural significance.

This year, Pune’s tour guides are redefining the Ganeshotsav experience by combining the city’s history, culture, and cuisine. These innovative tours offer participants a deeper appreciation of Pune’s festive spirit, heritage, and culinary traditions.
