Pune’s presence on the national rich list has seen a significant expansion in 2024, with 14 new entrepreneurs hailing from the city making their mark. This growth has brought the total number of wealthy individuals in Pune to 53, placing it eighth among Indian cities in terms of high-net-worth individuals.

Among the notable additions to the 2024 Hurun India rich list from Pune are Abhaykumar Firodia, whose family’s wealth has surged by 107% to reach ₹43,000 crore, primarily due to their holdings in Bajaj Finserv. Baba Kalyani’s family wealth has also grown by 68% to ₹31,200 crore.

The diverse economic landscape of Pune is reflected in the various sectors represented by the new entrepreneurs, including real estate, industrial products, software and services, retail, FMCG, and automobiles and auto components. Prominent figures from Pune include Supam Maheshwari, Rajesh Patil, and the Katkar brothers of Quick Heal Technologies.

Pune now ranks eighth in the list of Indian cities with the highest number of wealthy individuals, behind major cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata, and Ahmedabad. Established names like Cyrus Poonawalla and Anu Aga & Family continue to maintain their positions in the top 100.

The Hurun India list tracks wealth derived from various sectors and specific holdings, showcasing Pune’s growing economic influence and entrepreneurial spirit. With a thriving business environment supported by progressive government policies and a dynamic economic landscape, Pune is poised for continued growth. Anshu Goel, Founder and MD of Alphalogic Group, emphasized the importance of the manufacturing sector in driving future development in Pune.
