Hey Pune folks! As Ganeshotsav celebrations light up the city, let’s give a shoutout to the SWaCH waste pickers who are working hard to keep Pune clean and green. In its 15th year, the “Nirmalya to Nisarga” initiative is back, with over 200 waste pickers gearing up to collect organic offerings like flowers, leaves, and durva at 45 immersion sites on September 17th. These items are composted in collaboration with the PMC, promoting environmental conservation and respecting cultural traditions.

Despite facing delays in renewing their contracts, SWaCH waste pickers are dedicated to their mission. Saru Waghmare, a SWaCH Board Member, emphasized the strong bond between waste pickers and Pune’s residents. They’re urging citizens to hand over Nirmalya separately and not mix it with other waste, to safeguard the environment and uphold the city’s traditions.

On September 12th and 17th, you can find SWaCH waste pickers at 45 collection points across Pune. Remember to avoid disposing of Nirmalya in open spaces or water bodies and hand it over to the waste pickers instead. Let’s work together to preserve Pune’s natural beauty and cultural heritage. Check out the list of Nirmalya collection centers in your area and do your part in keeping Pune clean and green!
