If you’re in Pune during Ganeshotsav, chances are you want to visit as many Ganpati Bappa idols as possible. But for those who are bedridden due to medical emergencies, this can be a heartbreaking situation. That’s where Virtual Reality (VR) comes in to save the day at Sassoon General Hospital.

Thanks to a collaboration between the Shreemant Dagdusheth Halwai Sarvajanik Ganpati Trust and Virtual Reality Startup – Digital Art VRE, patients at Sassoon General Hospital can now enjoy the Darshan and Aarti of Shreemant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati from the comfort of their hospital beds. This initiative, spearheaded by Ajay Parge, Founder Director of Digital Art VRE, aims to bring the festival experience to those who can’t physically be there.

Patients who are unable to leave their beds due to illness now have the opportunity to feel like they are actually at the Utsav Mandap, bowing before the idol of Ganaraya. They can participate in the Aarti and many have been moved to tears of joy during this virtual reality experience. It’s a way for them to connect with the festival and pray for their speedy recovery.

Mahesh Suryavanshi, treasurer of the Shreemant Dagdusheth Halwai Public Ganapati Trust, has noted that this virtual reality experience provides patients with a unique sense of energy and satisfaction. The trust has been offering this initiative at Sassoon Hospital for the past four years and the feedback from patients has been overwhelmingly positive.
