The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) wasted no time in taking action after concerns were raised about potential land alteration in Mohammadwadi. They immediately instructed the Maharashtra forest department to investigate the matter. A team of forest officials from Wanowrie conducted a thorough inspection on September 10 and concluded that there was no evidence of land alteration or encroachment on reserve forest land, as confirmed by Range Forest Officer Raj Varak.

Deputy Conservator of Forests Mahadev Mohite further affirmed the findings of the investigation, stating that the projects in question were situated on Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) land. The forest department will be reaching out to the PMC to inform them about the situation and discuss next steps.

In an interview with Pune Pulse, environmental expert Dhankikar stressed the importance of soil and water conservation in Mohammadwadi. She has urged the forest department to implement measures to protect the region’s soil and water resources, emphasizing the significance of planting trees to prevent soil erosion and flooding.

The swift action taken by the forest department in response to the environmental concerns in Mohammadwadi underscores the importance of collaboration between residents and authorities to safeguard the area’s natural resources. By working together, they can ensure that Mohammadwadi’s environment is preserved for future generations.

Dhankikar expressed optimism about the forest officials’ recommendations, such as CCT construction and tree planting, believing that these measures will help address environmental damage and prevent further degradation in the region.
