Are you a bird lover or just curious about the amazing world of migration? Well, you’re in luck because the Passage Migration Count (PMC) 2024 in Kutch, Gujarat has just wrapped up and it was a huge success!

Over the course of three days, 140 dedicated bird watchers from 17 different states came together to identify an impressive 230 bird species. The majority of participants hailed from Maharashtra, but bird enthusiasts from across the country joined in on the fun.

The PMC teams covered 240 grids in the region, spotting migrant species like the spotted flycatcher, blue-cheeked bee-eater, European roller, and common cuckoo. Some lucky birds even got ringed during the exercise, adding to the excitement of the event.

For many participants, like Sunil Nikam, this was a memorable experience. Sunil shared, “It was my first bird count after completing my ornithology course in Pune. I was thrilled to identify major migrant species like the red-tailed shrike, European roller, spotted flycatcher, and common cuckoo.”

Regular participants from Pune, such as Shivaji Ghule, Raju Pasalkar, Mahesh Bilaskar, Ayan Watve, Virendra Gaikwad, and Rajendra Kamble, also had a fantastic time during the PMC 2024.
