Pune, 16th September 2024: Big news coming out of Pune as the Pune Police have taken major action in the murder case of former corporator Vanraj Suryakant Andekar. They have invoked the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA) against 21 individuals, including the notorious criminal Soma Gaekwad, Vanraj’s sister, her husband, and even three minor children.

The main accused in the case is Soma alias Somnath Sayaji Gaikwad, who leads the criminal gang involved in the murder. Other individuals arrested include Sanjeevani Jayant Komkar, Jayant Laxman Komkar, Prakash Jayant Komkar, Ganesh Laxman Komkar, Aniket Dudhbhate, Tushar alias Aba Kadam, Sagar Pawar, Sam alias Sameer Kale, Akash Mhaske, and Sangam Waghmare.

Even three minor children associated with the gang have been detained in connection with the case. The complaint was filed by Vanraj’s father, Suryakant alias Bandu Ranuji Andekar, at the Samarth Police Station.

The motive behind the murder seems to stem from a mix of financial and family disputes. Vanraj and Sanjeevani are siblings, with Jayant Komkar being her husband and Ganesh Komkar married to Andekar’s youngest daughter. The tensions escalated after an encroachment incident at Sanjeevani’s shop, which she believed was orchestrated by Vanraj, ultimately leading to the violent attack on September 1 where Vanraj was shot and stabbed to death near his home.

Following the attack, the police arrested 18 individuals and seized weapons and vehicles. The investigation uncovered that the murder was driven by revenge for a previous killing, financial issues, and ongoing family conflicts.

Soma Gaikwad’s gang had tried to attack Vanraj multiple times before succeeding on September 1 by gathering weapons and closely monitoring his movements. The murder is also linked to financial needs related to court proceedings involving the accused in the past killing.

The police are continuing their investigation to unravel the full extent of the gang’s operations and motives behind the murder. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
