Primary teachers in Maharashtra are taking a bold stand against decisions made by the State School Education Department. The unrest began with teachers wearing black ribbons as a sign of protest. But their actions escalated when they started exiting WhatsApp groups that included Education Department officials.

The primary teachers’ union officials held a meeting in Pune where they decided to refuse cooperation with the administration until the state government reverses its decisions on collective recognition, contractual recruitment, and Aadhaar card-based teacher determination. This move is seen as a strong display of non-cooperation and unity among teachers across the state.

Vijay Kombe, the State President of the Maharashtra State Primary Teachers Committee, explained that Education Department officials have been using WhatsApp groups to request various types of information from teachers. However, teachers are now choosing to exit these groups as part of their protest against the administration.

The teachers’ grievances include the government’s preference for hiring retired teachers over providing opportunities for younger candidates. Additionally, decisions made by the Education Department are criticized for not taking into account the different geographical conditions in the state, particularly in rural areas.

In response to these issues, all teachers are planning to go on leave and march in every district on 25th September. This demonstration is expected to further highlight the teachers’ demands and bring attention to the challenges they are facing in the education system. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
