Mercedes-Benz is facing allegations of failing to follow pollution control measures according to a notice from the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB). The notice accuses the company of discharging untreated effluent into the environment, surpassing air emission limits, and neglecting to upgrade waste treatment equipment. The MPCB has given Mercedes-Benz 15 days to respond or face legal action under environmental protection laws.

In response, Mercedes-Benz India has acknowledged receiving the notice and stated they will review it and cooperate with authorities. The MPCB conducted inspections on August 23 and September 4, revealing violations such as the non-operational status of crucial equipment in the Effluent Treatment Plant.

Critics have questioned the MPCB’s handling of the situation, especially after posts on social media detailing the violations were removed. MPCB Chairman Siddhesh Kadam expressed unawareness of the notice, promising to investigate further.

As the case unfolds, environmentalists and industry experts are closely monitoring the developments to see how Mercedes-Benz and the MPCB will proceed.
