Hey there, folks! It’s been a rough week in Junnar, with a tragic incident taking place in the court area on Friday, September 20. A large branch of an old banyan tree suddenly fell, resulting in the untimely death of Chandrakant Kisan Hande, a 54-year-old man from Umbraj Number Two, Taluka Junnar. Hande was at the court accompanying his sisters when the branch fell on him. Despite efforts from those present to remove the branch, Hande unfortunately passed away before he could receive medical treatment.

The medical officer on duty, Dr. Dilip Kokate, confirmed the tragic news and stated that Hande’s death was instantaneous. He leaves behind a wife, son, and daughter, and the Junnar police have registered a case of sudden death in connection to the incident.

What’s even more heartbreaking is that just a few days prior, lawyers and court employees had raised concerns about the tree’s branches and had urged the Public Works Department to take action. Unfortunately, their calls went unheeded, leading to this devastating outcome.

But that’s not all – in a separate incident, a laborer suffered a broken leg when a tree branch fell on a shop in a vegetable market a few days ago. It seems like the trees in Junnar are causing quite a stir lately.

It’s a stark reminder of the importance of regular maintenance and inspection of trees in public spaces to prevent such tragedies from occurring. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Chandrakant Kisan Hande during this difficult time. Stay safe, everyone.
