1. Transporters in Pune are facing a tough situation due to the low rates offered by oil companies. According to Dhruv Ruparel, President of PDA, the rates are not enough to cover the cost of diesel needed to fuel the transport vehicles.
  2. This has led to transporters resorting to theft in order to make their operations financially viable. Ruparel emphasized that this is a serious issue that needs to be addressed by the oil companies.
  3. The PDA has also criticized oil company officials for not implementing proper safety measures and vehicle tracking systems. Ruparel mentioned that company officials seem to be ignorant about these important aspects of transportation security.
  4. The association is now urging oil companies to reconsider their rates and only release tankers once a new tender with fair rates is issued. Typically, tenders are floated every 3 to 5 years with bond rates set by the company.
  5. Despite the ongoing issue, a senior oil marketing company official expressed optimism that a resolution will be reached soon. They have received communication from the PDA and are working towards a solution.
  6. However, there may be a temporary impact on fuel availability as tankers are being withheld until fair rates are agreed upon. Petrol pumps may only be able to sell their existing stock until the situation is resolved.
  7. Ruparel reiterated the importance of fair rates and safety measures in the transportation industry. The PDA is committed to finding a solution that benefits both transporters and oil companies in the long run.
