Hey there, Pune peeps! Looks like we’ve got some news about the water situation in our city. With heavy rainfall in the catchment areas and our local dams reaching full capacity, authorities are taking action.
According to the Sub Divisional Engineer at Mutha Canal Irrigation Sub Division in Swargate, water release into the Mutha River basin has begun. The Khadakwasla Dam spillway started releasing 2,568 cusecs of water earlier today, and that number has now increased to 6,743 cusecs by 7:00 p.m. And guess what? There might be more adjustments depending on the weather.
At 8:00 p.m., the Varasgaon Dam joined in on the action, releasing a total of 3,576 cusecs—2,976 cusecs from the spillway and 600 cusecs through power generation. Keep in mind, though, that this amount could change based on how things pan out weather-wise.
And just when you thought that was it, the Panshet Dam decided to get in on the fun too. By 8:30 p.m., a total of 5,080 cusecs was released—4,480 cusecs through the spillway and 600 cusecs through the power plant.
So, what does this mean for us? Well, authorities are advising everyone to steer clear of the riverbed as water levels could rise unexpectedly. If you’ve got any livestock or materials near the river, it’s best to move them pronto.
