The much-anticipated inauguration of the new Pune Metro route from Pune District Court Metro Station to Swargate Metro Station was unfortunately cancelled today due to bad weather and an orange alert issued for Pune. This has left Punekars eagerly awaiting the opening of this new route, which was supposed to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Pune Metro already has two operational routes, one from Ramwadi Metro Station to Vanaz Metro Station and the other from PCMC to Swargate, with the interchange at the District Court Metro Station. However, the underground stations at Shivajinagar, District Court, Budhwar Peth, Mandai, and Swargate were not yet operational until recently.
Residents of Central Peth and Swargate, who rely on daily commutes to Pimpri Chinchwad and other parts of Pune, have been eagerly awaiting the start of this new metro service. However, due to the cancellation of PM Modi’s visit, the inauguration has been delayed, much to the frustration of many citizens.
Pune Metro Executive Director, Hemant Sonawane, has assured residents that a decision on when to start the service will be made quickly, despite the delay in the inauguration. Some residents, like Aryan Devne and Rishi Kakade, have expressed their disappointment over the delay, questioning the necessity of waiting for the inauguration before starting the service.
As Punekars continue to wait for the opening of the new metro route, frustration is mounting among residents who were looking forward to easier commutes and less traffic congestion in the city. The blame has been placed on both PM Modi and the India Meteorological Department for the cancellation of the inauguration, leaving residents with even more uncertainty about when the new metro route will finally be operational.
