- Meet Pankaj Deshmukh, the Superintendent of Police for Pune Rural, who recently revealed how a criminal gang was able to steal cars with the help of a sophisticated tool called OBDStar Key Master. Deshmukh explained that the gang first traveled to an old market in Punjab to purchase this tool, which is used for automotive diagnostics and key programming.
- The criminals would then assess the model year of the vehicle they wanted to steal and unlock the door by inserting a wire or strip through the side window. Once they gained access, they connected their electronic device to the car to power it on. By using dummy software, they were able to activate a duplicate key, allowing them to start the vehicle and drive it away.
- After stealing the cars, the gang would transport them to various states like Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, where the stolen parts were sold. This highlights the organized nature of their operations and the extent of their criminal activities.
- One of the gang members, Sheikh, has admitted to being involved in 11 cases of four-wheeler theft across multiple districts, including Ahmednagar, Pune Rural, Jalgaon, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, Jalna, and Buldhana. The crime branch has also managed to recover four stolen four-wheelers from Tamil Nadu that Sheikh had stolen last year, indicating a larger network of vehicle thefts connected to his activities.
