Pune, the once prestigious ‘Oxford of the East’, is now facing a slew of challenges including rising crime rates, infrastructural issues, and drug-related problems. The Pune Police has come under fire for their perceived failure to address these issues effectively.
At the recent “Vibrant Pune” event organized by Punekar News, Pune City Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar addressed these concerns. He acknowledged the widespread drug use in Pune, especially among the youth, and emphasized the need for society as a whole to take responsibility for addressing this growing problem.
Drug and alcohol consumption among college and school students has become increasingly common in Pune, prompting Kumar to meet with the management of several top colleges in the city. He stressed the importance of parents monitoring their children’s activities, both online and offline, to combat this issue effectively.
Recent incidents, such as the Porsche accident in Kalyani Nagar, the viral video of youths consuming drugs on FC Road, and actor Ramesh Pardeshi’s controversial Instagram video, have only added to the public’s criticism of the City Police and its leadership.
Kumar highlighted areas like Viman Nagar, known for its numerous pubs and bars, as hotspots for underage drinking. He called for a change in mindset among society, urging individuals to take responsibility for their actions and the impact they have on the youth.
In conclusion, Kumar emphasized the importance of a balanced approach to tackling these issues, combining discipline with positive reinforcement to bring about lasting change in Pune’s culture.
