Hey there, Market Yard enthusiasts! Exciting news for all you onion lovers out there – the arrival of red onions has officially kicked off at the Market Yard! And guess what? Prices are not expected to skyrocket anytime soon. In fact, the cost of old onions has actually gone down by ₹6 compared to last week in the wholesale market.
If you’re in the market for some new onions, you can snag them for a cool ₹20 to ₹35, depending on the quality. And the best part? This drop in prices is also reflected in the retail market. Onions that were burning a hole in your pocket at ₹70-₹80 per kg last week are now a more affordable ₹50-₹60 per kg.
The demand for onions from Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh is on the rise due to crop damage in South Indian states, which initially caused prices to spike. However, with the recent influx of onions, things are looking up. On September 22nd, 70 trucks of onions made their way into the market, and by September 29th, that number had increased to 100 trucks, including 10 trucks of fresh new onions.
These fresh onions are coming in hot from Hubballi, Karnataka, and Purandar taluka in Pune. Experts are predicting that if the weather stays dry, we can expect even more quality onions to flood the market in the next few days. With the increase in supply, stored onions are also making their way to the market, causing prices to drop even further.
Last week, old onions were going for ₹44 to ₹48 per kg in the wholesale market, but now you can grab them for a steal at ₹35 to ₹42. So, stock up on those onions while you can, folks! And remember, when it comes to onions, the more, the merrier.
