Hey there, folks! Exciting news on the health front – the Zika virus transmission chain has been successfully broken in Pune. Yep, you heard that right! The PMC officials, along with support from the National Institute of Virology and the National Centre for Vector Borne Diseases Control, have put an end to the spread of Zika in September.
So, how did they do it, you ask? Well, the scientists from ICMR-NIV discovered the virus in adult mosquitoes and larvae from areas like Erandwane and Dhanukar Colony, where there were clusters of Zika cases. Out of the 100 infected individuals, 45 were pregnant women. But here’s the good news – none of these women have reported any complications, and their anomaly scan reports are all normal. Phew!
Dr. Rajesh Dighe, the assistant health officer at PMC, credited the success to the containment measures put in place. He mentioned that things like destroying breeding spots, conducting larva control, and fumigation with insecticide spraying played a key role in stopping the virus from spreading further.
So, kudos to the team for their hard work and dedication in keeping the people of Pune safe from Zika. Let’s hope this good news continues, and we can all breathe a sigh of relief knowing that the transmission chain has been broken. Stay safe, everyone!
