The political scene in Pune is heating up as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) gears up for the upcoming Legislative Elections in Maharashtra. MLC Pankaja Munde and Union Minister of State and Pune MP Murlidhar Mohol have been busy assessing the seats in the city. Rumor has it that BJP officials are planning to visit each constituency and conduct a secret vote among current and former office bearers to select candidates.
In this unique voting process, office bearers will need to submit the names of three candidates in writing, ranked in order of preference from 1 to 3, excluding their own names. The polling will take place in key constituencies such as Khadakwasla, Kothrud, Parvati, Shivajinagar, Kasba, and Cantonment. To further prepare for the assembly elections, BJP’s Maharashtra election inspector, Chikkamagaravalli Thimme Gowda Ravi, recently held a meeting with key office bearers at the BJP’s Pune City Office.
This poll aims to understand the preferences of the party’s chief office bearers and current and former representatives in each constituency. As a result, aspirants are actively lobbying and reaching out to office bearers to secure their support. However, the voting process will not be conducted in Hadapsar and Wadgaon Sheri constituencies, where the NCP holds sway.
It seems that the NCP, led by Ajit Pawar, will retain these constituencies, leaving no room for the Shiv Sena faction led by Eknath Shinde. Nevertheless, there may be some controversy surrounding the Hadapsar constituency as the Shiv Sena has also shown interest in it. Discussions are ongoing to address the Shiv Sena’s desire to contest in this constituency and strengthen their position in Pune. Stay tuned for more updates on the political developments in Pune!
