Good news for residents of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and other parts of India as the monsoon rains have finally arrived. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has confirmed that the monsoon has made its way to Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, with widespread coverage in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, the Arabian Sea, the Bay of Bengal, and Northeast India.

The monsoon arrived in Kerala on May 30 and had fully settled there by June 1. By Sunday, it had extended to cover all of Kerala and Tamil Nadu, as well as the entire Northeast, the Arabian Sea, and the Bay of Bengal. Some parts of South Karnataka, South Andhra Pradesh, and Tripura are still waiting to be covered, but the IMD predicts that the monsoon will continue to progress further in the next few days.

The arrival of the monsoon has brought relief from the scorching temperatures in the state, with Yavatmal recording the highest temperature on Sunday at 45.0°C. Other areas in Vidarbha also experienced high temperatures, including Washim, Nagpur, Chandrapur, Amravati, and Akola. In Marathwada, temperatures in Parbhani, Dharashiv, Nanded, and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar were also high.

In Madhya Maharashtra, Solapur, Jalgaon, Malegaon, and Pune saw temperatures above 36°C. However, coastal regions like Colaba and Ratnagiri experienced cooler temperatures.

The progression of the monsoon is a welcome relief for regions experiencing high temperatures and water scarcity. The IMD’s forecast bodes well for the upcoming rainy season, which is crucial for agriculture and water resources in the affected states.
