Hey there, folks in Pune! Get ready to bundle up this winter because the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) is predicting a colder-than-usual season for Maharashtra. After a rainy monsoon season, it looks like we’re in for some chilly weather ahead.
But hold on, don’t put away those umbrellas just yet! IMD is also forecasting more rain than usual in October, with a chance of cold winds during Diwali. So, make sure you have your raincoats and jackets handy for the festive season.
And get this – IMD is even warning of an ‘October heatwave’ in most parts of the state. IMD Director General Dr. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra mentioned that global temperatures have been on the rise, and if the ‘La Niña’ system in the Pacific Ocean kicks in, we could be in for an even colder winter.
Typically, October sees an average rainfall of 75.4 mm in India, but this year, IMD is expecting a whopping 115 percent increase. North Konkan, South Madhya Maharashtra, and East Vidarbha, along with Mumbai, are expected to get soaked this month.
The monsoon started to retreat on 23rd September but made a brief pause on the 24th. As of now, it has bid adieu to Leh, Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, and parts of Rajasthan. Mumbai and Pune can expect the rains to stop around 10th October.
Seasonal winds are already making their way back from North India, and the monsoon winds are expected to leave Maharashtra soon. After heavy rains last week, Mumbai is starting to warm up again.
So, there you have it – stay prepared for a mix of rain, cold winds, and maybe even a heatwave this October in Maharashtra. Keep an eye out for more updates as we head into the winter season!
