The scorching heat wave in Pune has left residents feeling the heat, especially between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. The average heat index for October is at a sweltering 36 degrees Celsius, with a relative humidity of 64%, making it extremely uncomfortable for everyone. Anupam Kashyapi, former head of the IMD’s Weather Forecasting Division, explained that the post-monsoon period in October brings intense solar radiation, increasing the heat load and making the weather unbearable.

Health experts are warning residents to be cautious and prevent heat-related illnesses like dehydration and heatstroke. They advise wearing light clothes, staying hydrated, avoiding direct sunlight during peak hours, and taking breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas to stay safe.

The IMD’s forecast for Pune from October 6 to 11 predicts clear skies and rising temperatures. Maximum temperatures are expected to reach 34.2 degrees Celsius, with a minimum of 22 degrees Celsius. As the monsoon withdraws from Maharashtra, including Nandurbar, the region will experience drier and hotter conditions.

The post-monsoon climate shift is a common occurrence in October, leading to hotter afternoons as the region transitions from the rainy season to dry weather. With rising temperatures and humidity levels, the heat feels more intense, especially in areas like Lohegaon, Pashan, Lavale, and NDA.

As the heat continues to rise in October, residents are advised to take precautions and prioritize their health. With no relief from the sun in sight, it is crucial to stay prepared and take preventive measures to stay safe during the hottest parts of the day.
