Market Yard in Pune was bustling with activity on October 7th as the prices of various vegetables soared due to increased demand. Traders reported that while the prices of tomatoes, cabbage, and bell peppers saw a sharp rise, other fruits and vegetables remained stable.
A significant number of fruits and vegetables arrived at the Shree Chhatrapati Shivaji Market Yard on Sunday, October 6th. Green chilies, cabbage, lima beans, common beans, drumsticks, carrots, groundnuts, and garlic were among the items delivered from various states like Karnataka, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh.
From the Pune division, ginger, okra, guar beans, and tomatoes arrived in large quantities. Additionally, peas, cucumbers, cauliflower, red pumpkins, and onions were transported from nearby areas like Purandar, Parner, Wai, and Satara. Potatoes were imported from Indore, Agra, and local regions.
During the Navaratri festival, the demand for amaranth surged, leading to increased prices for leafy vegetables like coriander, amaranth, safflower leaves, and Indian radish. However, prices for fenugreek, dill leaves, spring onions, mint, sorrel leaves, green sorrel, and spinach remained stable.
In the wholesale market, the prices for various green vegetables ranged from ₹400 to ₹1,500 per 100 bundles. Coriander, fenugreek, dill leaves, spring onions, white goosefoot, safflower leaves, mint, sorrel leaves, Indian radish, amaranth, green sorrel, cowpea, and spinach were among the vegetables listed.
Meanwhile, the demand for flowers also increased during the Navaratri festival, leading to a rise in prices. Marigold, Mexican tuberose, aster, chrysanthemum, roses, tuberose, Dutch rose, gerbera daisies, carnation, chrysanthemum sticks, lilium, orchid, gypsophila, and jasminum auriculatum were among the flowers available at varying prices per kilogram.
Overall, the Market Yard was abuzz with traders and buyers alike, navigating the fluctuating prices and high demand for fresh produce and flowers.
