Hey Pune folks, exciting news for those looking to go on the Haj pilgrimage next year! The Central Government has announced the quota for the pilgrimage, with a whopping 1.75 lakh pilgrims set to get the opportunity to visit Haj.
The quota includes 70% allocated to the Central government’s Haj Committee, allowing 1,22,518 devotees to make the journey. There’s even a women’s Mehram quota of 500, ensuring that more women can take part in the pilgrimage.
To make things even more transparent, the Centre has published online details about the devotees’ quota, selection process, and expenses for the pilgrimage. This move has been praised by Pune City & District Haj Committee President Haji Riyaz Qazi and Secretary Haji Sayyad Khan.
The announcement was made on August 13, 2024, and since then, 1,52,976 applications have been submitted, with a significant number of them coming from citizens above the age of 65. Despite the quota for Maharashtra being 17,412, the state has received 23,395 applications, showing the high demand for the pilgrimage.
For those interested in going on Haj, the first installment of expenses, amounting to Rs 1,30,300, must be deposited in either State Bank of India or Bank of India from October 8 to 21. Guidance for the pilgrimage will also be provided at the Pensionwalla Masjid in Nana Peth.
