Hey Pune, it’s time for a quick update on the Zika virus situation in our city. The numbers are definitely concerning, with a total of 103 cases now reported. What’s even more worrying is that a large number of those affected are pregnant women, which has health officials on high alert.
The Pune Municipal Corporation has confirmed that five patients have sadly passed away, but it’s important to note that their deaths were due to underlying health conditions, not directly from the virus itself. In the latest development, three new cases were detected in the Erandwane area, including a 19-year-old woman and two older men who initially showed symptoms of fever.
The most affected areas include Dahanukar Colony, Erandwane, Kharadi, Ghole Road, and Pashan, with varying numbers of cases reported in each region. Dr. Rajesh Dighe from the PMC has mentioned that out of the 103 cases, 45 are pregnant women who are being closely monitored due to the risks Zika poses to maternal and fetal health.
Despite the unfortunate deaths, health officials have clarified that the primary cause was underlying health issues, not the Zika virus itself. The affected patients include senior citizens from various parts of Pune, and their medical reports have been reviewed by the state health department.
The PMC is actively working to contain the spread of Zika and provide medical care to those affected. Stay safe, Pune, and remember to take necessary precautions to protect yourself and your loved ones from the virus.
