The Zika virus outbreak in Pune is causing concern as the number of cases continues to rise, reaching a total of 103. In a recent update, three new cases were identified in the Erandwane Regional Office area. These patients, including a 19-year-old woman, a 69-year-old man, and a 59-year-old man, all exhibited fever symptoms and tested positive for the virus at the National Institute of Virology.
The most heavily impacted areas in Pune include Dahanukar Colony, Erandwane, Kharadi, Ghole Road, Pashan, Sukhsagar Nagar, Mundhwa, Wanwadi, Kalas, Koregaon Park, Ambegaon Budruk, Lohagaon, and Vishrambaug Wada.
Of the confirmed cases, 45 are pregnant women, emphasizing the need for close monitoring due to the health risks associated with Zika for both mothers and unborn children. While there have been five deaths linked to Zika patients, health officials clarified that these individuals had underlying health conditions that were the primary causes of death.
The Pune Municipal Corporation is actively monitoring the situation, providing medical care to those affected, and implementing preventive measures to contain the spread of the virus.
