In a tragic incident that has left the city in shock, a speeding Audi car struck two bikers in Koregaon Park late last night, resulting in the death of one person. The incident took place in front of the Google Building on ABC Road, near Tadi Guta Chowk around 1:30 AM.
DCP (Zone 5) R Raja shared that the luxury car first collided with an Activa scooter carrying three individuals before hitting another two-wheeler from behind. The driver, identified as Ayush Pradeep Tayal, is a senior executive at an electronics company in Ranjangaon MIDC. The driver fled the scene after the crash, leaving the victims behind.
Rauf Akbar Shaikh, who was on the second two-wheeler, was rushed to Noble Hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries. Three other individuals sustained injuries in the accident. CCTV footage helped the police track down the car and arrest Tayal at his residence in Hadapsar.
The police suspect that the driver may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. A case has been registered at Mundhwa police station under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicle Act.
The community is mourning the loss of Shaikh, who was a food delivery boy. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time. Let’s hope for swift justice for the victims of this tragic hit-and-run.
