The case of the fatal accident in Kalyani Nagar involving a drunk minor has taken a shocking turn as the DNA report of the minor’s mother, Shivani Agarwal, has confirmed that her blood sample was swapped with the minor’s at Sassoon Hospital. This revelation has led to the arrest of Dr. Ajay Taware, Dr. Shrihari Halnor, and peon Atul Ghatkamble, who were involved in the sample swapping to protect the minor from legal consequences for driving under the influence.
The police have requested a 14-day extension from the Pune Juvenile Justice Board regarding the minor accused in the case. Initially granted bail within 15 hours of the accident, the minor was ordered to be held in a remand home for boys until today, 5th June. With the police seeking an extension, the minor’s stay may be prolonged. Assistant Commissioner of Police Sunil Tambe has formally requested this extension.
More than 16 days have passed since the crime was registered, and under the Juvenile Justice Act of 2015, all related documents must be submitted to the JJB within a month. The police are prepared to submit the investigation documents on time and have requested an extension until June 14 to file the statement on the child’s extension application.
The minor’s legal representatives have requested custody to be entrusted to family friends upon his release from the remand home. The JJB has specified that blood relatives are ineligible for custody, and the lawyers have complied by submitting names of third-party individuals who could take custody. The next course of action in this case is pending further developments.
