Hey there, folks! Big news coming out of Pune today – the Crime Branch team has made a breakthrough in the Bopdev Ghat gang rape case. They’ve managed to arrest the second suspect, Akhtar Ali Sheikh, all the way from Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.
Akhtar, a 28-year-old resident of Kondhwa, was working for a scrap dealer in the area. The police had been on the lookout for him after nabbing the first suspect, Ravindra Kumar Kanojia, also from Kondhwa. Kanojia is currently in police custody until tomorrow, as the search for the third suspect continues.
This case has seen a massive investigative effort, with police teams combing through 450 criminals in 45 villages near Bopdev Ghat. They’ve been questioning known offenders with a history of serious crimes like robbery, molestation, and rape. The scale of the operation is huge, with 60 crime branch teams deployed and data collected on 50,000 mobile users who passed through the area.
The breakthrough came when Kanojia was arrested on 10th October, leading to the discovery that Akhtar had fled to Prayagraj. Under the direction of Deputy Commissioner of Police Nikhil Pingle, a team led by Senior Police Inspector Vijay Kumbhar managed to track down and arrest Akhtar in his hometown.
Reports suggest that Akhtar had multiple wives, with one residing in Prayagraj. After the Bopdev Ghat incident, he allegedly made a run for it to Uttar Pradesh via Nagpur. It’s a huge win for the police team involved in this case, and hopefully, justice will be served for the victims soon.
