Kanojia, a 20-year-old resident of Undri and originally from Dindori, Madhya Pradesh, was nabbed by the Pune Police. His partner in crime, Akhtar Sheikh, was also apprehended from Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh. The horrific incident occurred on 3rd October at Table Point in Bopdev Ghat, and Kanojia was arrested a week later.

The court has ordered an identification test for Kanojia, and DNA samples, along with other medical samples, have been sent for examination. It was reported that the accused were planning a robbery when they ended up committing the heinous act. The police have recovered the sticks and clothing from the crime scene, and an identification test will be conducted in the presence of the victim and her friend.
