Hey there, folks in Pune! Have you heard the latest news about the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and their water supply efforts? Well, it seems like the Central Government has taken notice and awarded PMC third place in the urban category for their outstanding work.
According to Additional Commissioner Prithviraj B.P., PMC will be receiving this prestigious award for their various initiatives in water supply, sewage management, and water conservation. With 76% of households in Pune receiving tap water for a minimum of four hours daily, averaging 157 litres per capita per day, the city is definitely making strides in providing quality water to its citizens.
But that’s not all – Pune City has achieved 100% toilet coverage in residential areas, with over 6 lakh toilets and 194 public urinals installed across the city. The sewerage network covers 98% of the city, with 75% of daily wastewater being treated. And get this – 60% of the treated water is being reused for purposes like irrigation, construction, and parks. Now that’s what I call sustainable water management!
Nandkishore Jagtap, Chief Engineer of the Water Supply Department, couldn’t be more proud of PMC’s accomplishments. He mentioned, “PMC is always striving to provide high-quality water to the people of Pune. This award acknowledges our efforts in water management, conservation measures, and sewage treatment projects.”
So, let’s give a round of applause to PMC for their hard work in ensuring that the citizens of Pune have access to clean and reliable water. The award ceremony is scheduled for 22nd October in New Delhi, and we can’t wait to see PMC receive the recognition they truly deserve. Keep up the great work, Pune!
