The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) has issued a stern show-cause notice to Cybage Software, a prominent IT firm in Pune, for flouting environmental regulations related to noise and air pollution. The notice comes in the wake of multiple complaints from residents living near the company’s construction site in Vadgaon Sheri.

Residents of the Kumar Krutika Building and other nearby areas raised concerns over excessive noise and air pollution emanating from the ongoing construction activities at Cybage Software’s new building. The complaints prompted the MPCB to take action, leading to the issuance of the notice on October 11, 2024.

The notice cites various violations by Cybage Software, including unauthorized blasting activities, lack of air pollution control measures, and improper water discharge practices. The company allegedly conducted blasting without a valid No Objection Certificate and failed to implement basic precautions to minimize air pollution, such as the absence of a compound wall and proper barricades.

JS Salunkhe, the regional officer of MPCB in Pune, confirmed the receipt of complaints and stated that legal action would be taken if Cybage Software does not comply with the regulations within seven days. Potential consequences for non-compliance include monetary penalties, legal proceedings, and suspension of construction activities.

It is crucial for companies to adhere to environmental regulations to mitigate the adverse impacts of construction activities on public health and the environment. The MPCB’s actions serve as a reminder that adherence to environmental norms is essential to ensure sustainable development without compromising community well-being.
