Hey Pune, buckle up because the traffic police are cracking down on unruly drivers in the city! In an effort to reduce accidents and ensure smoother traffic flow, heavy vehicles have been banned during rush hours. And it seems like the police mean business – over 25,000 motorists have already faced the consequences, with more than 200 vehicles being confiscated.
Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar is not messing around when it comes to enforcing traffic rules. He has warned that driving in the wrong direction will result in the vehicle being impounded for a whopping six months. Ouch!
The increase in accidents has been linked to more drivers traveling in the wrong direction, especially during peak hours. To combat this dangerous trend, the Traffic Branch has launched a targeted campaign against unruly drivers. So far, over 200 vehicles have been impounded in just the last 15 days.
Commissioner Kumar has pointed out that ongoing construction and development works in the city are exacerbating the problem, with heavy vehicles contributing to accidents during rush hours. That’s why heavy vehicles have been banned during peak times, with the traffic police keeping a close eye on violators.
From 1st October to 16th October, the numbers speak for themselves:
– Driving in the Opposite Direction: 21,285 violations
– Triple Seating Violations: 2,872 cases
– Drunk Driving Offenses: 570 incidents
– Impounded Vehicles: 215
So, if you’re out on the roads in Pune, make sure to follow the rules and drive safely. The traffic police are watching!
