Pune, 23rd October 2024: In a recent development, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has made an arrest in Pune related to a bribery case involving a Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) engineer. The engineer, identified as Bhausaheb Machindra Sawant, was apprehended for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 5 lakh.
The bribe was reportedly solicited in exchange for processing important pending files and approving an increased electricity load for a newly constructed building in Manjari. According to reports, an electrical contractor filed a complaint stating that Sawant had asked for the bribe to process five pending files and sanction the electricity load for the new building.
After verifying the complaint, the ACB set up a trap at the MSEDCL office in Bund Garden where Sawant was allegedly caught red-handed accepting Rs 2 lakh as an advance from the total bribe amount. Sawant has since been arrested, and a case has been registered at Wanowrie Police Station.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Shirish Sardeshpande and Additional Superintendent of Police Dr. Sheetal Janve, with Police Inspector Veernath Mane leading the investigation.
This incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing battle against corruption and the importance of upholding ethical standards in public service.
