Fraud cases involving individuals posing as police officers are becoming more common in Pashan, with cybercriminals managing to steal a significant amount of money from unsuspecting victims. In two recent incidents, two senior citizens fell victim to these scams, losing a total of ₹70 lakh.
One of the victims, a senior citizen from Pashan, was contacted by cyber thieves through social media in September. The scammers pretended to be police officers and even went as far as sending a fake police identity card to gain the victim’s trust. They told him that black money had been transacted from his bank account and that immediate action was required to assist in the investigation. As a result, the victim transferred ₹45 lakh to the scammers, who then proceeded to steal the money from his account.
In a similar case, an 84-year-old resident of the Tilak Road area was also defrauded by individuals pretending to be police officers. The scammers contacted him over the phone, obtained his bank details, and managed to steal ₹25.40 lakh from his account. The stolen money was then transferred to multiple accounts to cover their tracks.
Both cases are currently being investigated by Crime Branch Police Inspector More to track down the perpetrators and prevent further fraud from occurring. It’s important for everyone to remain vigilant and cautious when dealing with individuals claiming to be law enforcement officers, especially when it comes to financial transactions.
