The Bombay High Court has made a decision that could have serious implications for the father of a minor involved in a fatal car accident in Pune. The court has denied anticipatory bail to the father of a friend of the minor driver, who was responsible for a tragic accident that claimed the lives of two young individuals back in May.
Justice Manish Pitale, presiding over the case, noted that there was evidence suggesting that the petitioner had tampered with blood samples in an attempt to protect the minor driver. The court expressed concerns that granting bail could potentially lead to the destruction of crucial evidence in the case.
According to reports, the petitioner’s minor son was present in the back seat of the Porsche during the accident. It has been alleged by the police that both the minor driver and the petitioner’s son were intoxicated at the time of the incident.
The fatal crash occurred on May 19 in Pune’s Kalyaninagar area, when a car driven by the minor driver collided with two motorcycle-borne IT engineers. Following the accident, it is claimed that the minor driver’s parents bribed a doctor to submit the mother’s blood sample instead of the minor’s. Additionally, the petitioner is accused of tampering with his son’s blood samples in collaboration with doctors at Sassoon Hospital, as per police statements.
While other individuals involved in the case have been apprehended, the petitioner remains at large. The police have strongly opposed granting him anticipatory bail, arguing that he could face charges for destroying evidence or providing false information to assist a criminal.
In response, the petitioner’s legal representative argued that the charges against him were bailable and sought anticipatory bail. However, the court ruled in favor of the police and denied the petitioner’s request for bail.
