Pune district is off to a strong start this rabi season, with a whopping 56,345 hectares already sown with crops. Thanks to the abundant rainfall this year, farmers have been able to kickstart their planting activities with ease.
District Agriculture Officer Sanjay Kachole highlighted the importance of this year’s rainfall, which has left the soil in ideal conditions for rabi cultivation. This is a welcome change from last year’s struggles during the kharif season, where production was down by 50% due to insufficient rainfall.
Leading the charge in rabi sowing are talukas like Baramati, Indapur, and Purandar. Jowar is the dominant crop this season, with wheat, chickpea, and maize also taking up significant areas for cultivation.
In terms of rabi sowing by taluka, Purandar leads the pack with 13,295 hectares, followed by Baramati and Shirur. This diverse crop cultivation strategy reflects the district’s commitment to maximizing agricultural output.
With a proactive start to the rabi season, Pune district is on track to recover from last year’s setbacks. The positive outlook for this season’s harvest is a testament to the region’s resilience and potential for agricultural success.
