The Ranjangaon industrial area in Pune is currently facing a major problem with its sewage treatment plant, which has been accused of releasing untreated wastewater into the environment. The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) has taken action by issuing a notice to the Ranjangaon Industrial Area, following a similar situation in the Kurkumbh Industrial Area last month.

There seems to be some tension between the MPCB and the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) regarding the issues with the sewage treatment plant in Ranjangaon MIDC. The notice from the MPCB’s Regional Officer Jagannath Salunkhe pointed out various operational failures within the plant, including system shutdowns and the malfunction of the real-time data monitoring display board.

The MPCB had also served a notice to Kurkumbh MIDC in September due to water pollution concerns raised by local residents. They had complained about untreated sewage contaminating nearby water sources, raising doubts about the effectiveness of the sewage treatment plant in Kurkumbh MIDC.

Despite the MPCB’s repeated notices, MIDC officials have stated that they are following regulations and are working to address any errors in the project. They claim to have given a strong response to the board in light of the latest notice.

It is clear that the issue of pollution from untreated wastewater discharge in industrial areas like Ranjangaon and Kurkumbh is a pressing concern that needs to be addressed promptly to protect the environment and public health.
