It’s election season in Pune, and all eyes are on the upcoming battle in Shivajinagar. BJP’s Siddharth Shirole will once again go head-to-head with Congress’s Datta Bahirat, who narrowly lost to Shirole in the 2019 elections. With 12 aspirants in the mix, including Congress candidates Manish Anand and Sunny Nimhan, the competition is fierce. Nimhan, a former BJP corporator and son of ex-MLA Vinayak Nimhan, is throwing his hat into the ring for Shivajinagar.
Over in Pune Cantonment, Congress is pinning its hopes on Ramesh Bagwe, a former Minister of State for Home, to take down sitting BJP MLA Sunil Kamble. Historically a Congress stronghold, this reserved seat for Scheduled Caste candidates has seen a shift in recent years, with Kamble winning in both 2014 and 2019. With approximately 290,000 voters at play, the stakes are high in this constituency.
As the election date draws near, all eyes will be on these crucial battlegrounds in Pune’s political landscape. Stay tuned for more updates as the race heats up.
