Baner residents came together to discuss safety measures with the Baner police station on October 26, led by Senior Police Inspector Mahesh Bolkotgi. The meeting yielded several suggestions, including establishing a 24/7 helpline with numbers 112 and 100, creating a Pune City Police WhatsApp group for community updates, and providing a dedicated Baner Police Station number for senior citizens.
Other suggestions included implementing a system to assist senior citizens living alone, sharing information on cybercrime and fraud prevention, and installing notice boards along routes to Baner Hill with essential services and police contact information. Citizens also proposed installing CCTV cameras on all hills in Pune for surveillance, setting up PA systems for announcements, and increasing police patrols with the use of police scanners.
Approximately 200 to 300 residents attended the meeting and expressed their support for the proposed safety measures. They also agreed to spread awareness about avoiding Baner Hill between 6:00 PM and 5:00 AM. The community recommended conducting regular “People Awareness” programs to foster communication between the police and the public.
