Illegal firecracker shops have been causing a stir in Pune, with the Airport police cracking down on four unlicensed vendors. These rogue sellers have been the subject of numerous complaints from the public, prompting authorities to step up enforcement efforts.

Legitimate firecracker stalls must meet strict criteria set by the Fire Department, PMC, and police before they are allowed to operate. Areas like Vartak Baug and Golibar Maidan have licensed shops with enhanced security measures in place, including fire brigade personnel and water tankers to ensure public safety during Diwali.

Unfortunately, unauthorized vendors have been setting up shop in other parts of the city, prompting the Airport police to take action. Illegal setups near Phoenix Mall on Nagar Road and in Lohgaon’s Sant Nagar and Bhaji Mandi areas were targeted, with cases registered against vendors like Gururaj Firecrackers Mart and Mahalakshmi Firecracker Mart.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 4), Himmat Jadhav, stressed the importance of cracking down on illegal firecracker shops, especially in residential areas where they pose a significant fire hazard. He called on the public to report any unauthorized vendors to the authorities for swift action.

Authorities in Vimannagar and Lohgaon are on high alert, ensuring that illegal vendors are removed to prevent accidents during the festive season. Stay safe and report any illegal firecracker shops to the police to help keep your community secure.
