As the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Elections draw near, there’s a lot of hustle and bustle among all the political parties and alliances. Official candidates have already filed their nominations, but in some constituencies, candidates from the same alliance have also thrown their hats into the ring, either under the party banner or as independents.
To address this issue within Mahayuti, Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis is currently in Pune. During his visit, he didn’t shy away from responding to the opposition’s criticisms.
With the deadline for withdrawing nominations on 4th November and tomorrow being a Sunday, time is running out. Having multiple candidates from the same alliance could create complications, potentially splitting votes and giving an advantage to the opposition.
Fadnavis, during his visit to Pune, mentioned that meetings with key leaders from Pune are scheduled as the elections draw closer. He also acknowledged that there are some matters to discuss and that people from other districts are converging on Pune for convenience.
When asked about the situation of candidates from the same alliance in constituencies like Daund, Purandar, and Kothrud, where additional candidates have entered the fray, Fadnavis urged for calm, expressing confidence that everything would be resolved. He expects those additional candidates to withdraw their nominations.
In a recent statement, veteran leader Sharad Pawar alleged that candidates from the ruling party are being escorted by police cars. Fadnavis brushed off the claim, stating that such practices don’t occur anymore.
Responding to concerns raised by Shiv Sena’s Sanjay Raut about heightened security for Fadnavis, the Home Minister quipped about who may actually need security from Raut, adding a touch of humor to the situation.
Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar’s recent remarks about the late former Home Minister RR Patil have stirred controversy, with opposition leader Jayant Patil suggesting that Pawar was blackmailed by Fadnavis. Fadnavis dismissed Patil’s comments as jokes, advising not to take him too seriously.
