Dr. Ajit Ranade, a well-known economist, has stepped down from his role as Vice Chancellor of Pune’s Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics. In a letter to the new Chancellor, Sanjeev Sanyal, dated October 29, Dr. Ranade cited personal reasons for his sudden resignation.

Initially appointed in October 2021, his qualifications were later questioned by a fact-finding committee, leading to a termination order by the former Chancellor Bibek Debroy. Recent developments saw the new Chancellor, Sanjeev Sanyal, rescind the termination order against Dr. Ranade on October 22, which was acknowledged by the Bombay High Court. Despite this positive turn of events, Dr. Ranade chose to resign from his position shortly thereafter.
