Hey Pune peeps, Diwali celebrations this year brought some fiery action to the city with a total of 60 fire incidents reported. Yep, you read that right, 60! But hey, at least no serious injuries were reported, so that’s a relief.
The Pune fire brigade wasn’t just sitting around twiddling their thumbs during all this chaos. Nope, they launched a safety campaign called ‘Safe Diwali, Happy Diwali’ to remind everyone to play it safe with those firecrackers. Firefighters hit the streets with loudspeakers, spreading the word about celebrating Diwali responsibly.
Most of the fire incidents went down on Lakshmi Puja, with a whopping 36 fires blazing between 7 p.m. and midnight. Padwa and Bhaubeej didn’t escape unscathed either, with 14 and 4 incidents respectively, all thanks to those explosive firecrackers.
For those keeping score, this year saw a spike in fire incidents compared to previous years. In 2021, there were 21 incidents, 19 in 2022, and 35 in 2023. But 2024 took the cake with a grand total of 60 incidents. Let’s hope next year’s Diwali is a little less fiery and a lot more sparkly!
