Authorities in Pune district have been cracking down on illegal activities ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly elections, with a total seizure of cash, liquor, drugs, and precious metals amounting to a whopping ₹16.34 crore. The largest seizures were reported in Khadakwasla, Shirur, and Bhor constituencies, with varying values of confiscated items.
Cash accounted for the majority of the seized amount at ₹9.01 crore, followed by liquor at ₹3.05 crore and drugs valued at ₹40 lakh. Precious metals worth ₹1.04 crore were also seized, primarily in Shirur. With over 88 lakh registered voters in Pune district, preparations for polling include setting up 8,462 polling booths to accommodate voters. Notably, the district has seen an increase in overseas voters, now totaling 1,957 compared to earlier counts.
District Collector Suhas Diwase highlighted the importance of these efforts to ensure fair and transparent elections, emphasizing the district’s commitment to upholding electoral integrity. These proactive measures aim to curb illicit practices and influence during the election period, reflecting a strong stance against illegal activities in the lead-up to the Maharashtra Assembly elections.
