Are you a woman from a disadvantaged background who is pregnant or has a child under the age of one? If so, you may be entitled to monetary benefits through the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY). However, the online portal for registering for this scheme has been causing problems for beneficiaries, with slow speeds and OTP generation issues being major roadblocks.

To combat these issues, Asha workers have taken matters into their own hands by manually registering beneficiaries. This has helped to ensure that those in need are still able to receive the financial support they are entitled to.

The state health department has also stepped up to the plate by conducting a special drive to register pending beneficiaries. Despite facing technical challenges, they have managed to clear 50% of the target numbers since March 2023, showing a commitment to helping those in need.

Since its launch in 2020, the PMMVY has benefited over 88,000 women by providing them with monetary support to help cover the costs of nutritious food and compensate for lost wages during pregnancy and the first year of the child’s life. This scheme aims to provide much-needed assistance to those who may not have access to other forms of support during this crucial time.

While manual registration is a temporary solution to the current technical issues, it is crucial that the underlying problems are addressed to ensure that all eligible women receive the benefits they are entitled to. The PMC and state health department must work together to streamline the registration process and ensure that those in need are not left behind.
