- Slow Progress on Road Work:
It seems like the road work in various areas of Pune is moving at a snail’s pace, causing inconvenience to residents. From Sainik Vihar to Raheja Premiere Circle, construction seems to be dragging on, and the road near Archana Glory is also taking its time to be concretised. The road from Dorabjee paradise bunglow society to Lavanya hotel has been closed for traffic for over 6 months, and the road from DPS school to Handewadi has been under construction for a year. The residents are left wondering when these projects will be completed.
- Heavy Vehicle Traffic Concerns:
Despite restrictions, heavy vehicles continue to ply through residential zones during prohibited hours, leading to noise and air pollution. Advocate Ritesh Yeolekar from Palace Orchards society in Undri has raised concerns about the safety risks posed by these violations, especially for children and the elderly. Complaints to authorities have not yielded any action, prompting residents to call for stricter fines and increased surveillance.
- Water Supply Woes:
Many housing societies have been relying on private water tankers for over a decade, resulting in high monthly expenses. The non-functional water tanks near Royale Heritage Mall have left residents like Adv. Kishor Baligar from Dorabjee Paradise Bungalow Society frustrated with the lack of government support. The PMC needs to address this water crisis urgently.
- Inadequate Street Lighting:
The lack of proper street lighting in several areas has created safety hazards for pedestrians, especially at night. Sunil Koloti from Nyati Windchimes in Undri highlighted the risks associated with dark streets and called for immediate action to address this issue.
- Sewage and Cleanliness Challenges:
The absence of sewage pipelines has forced residents to pump out waste frequently, leading to additional costs and health risks. Stagnant waste has become a breeding ground for mosquitoes, posing a threat to public health.
- Encroachments and Congestion:
Encroachments along narrow roads have worsened traffic congestion, making it dangerous for pedestrians to navigate the area. The lack of sidewalks has further complicated the situation, especially in an area known for its schools.
Residents in Undri, Mohamadwadi, and NIBM Annexe are facing numerous infrastructure challenges despite paying high taxes. With no government water supply, frequent electricity outages, and inadequate drainage, residents are demanding immediate improvements to match the taxes they pay. A hunger strike is being planned on Republic Day to draw attention to these grievances and push for action from authorities. Unless these issues are addressed promptly, the quality of life in these areas will continue to deteriorate, putting public health and safety at risk.
